JAMES C. DEMPSEY
JAMES C. DEMPSEY has been of counsel to the firm since 1991. He practices with the firm's corporate practice group and also deals with a wide range of commercial, real estate, tax, and securities law matters.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Dempsey was Senior Counsel to Stauffer Chemical Company in Westport, Connecticut, until its acquisition by ICI Americas, Inc. At Stauffer Chemical, he was responsible for the company's merger, acquisition and divestiture activity, as well as corporate real estate.
Mr. Dempsey did his undergraduate work at Fordham University where he received a B.A. degree in 1958. He attended Fordham University School of Law where he earned an LL.B. degree in 1962. In 1976, while serving in the Army Reserve, he was graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He retired from the Army in 1986 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Infantry, but continues to serve as an adjunct faculty member of the Command and General Staff College.
His bar admissions include New York (1962) and Connecticut (1987); U.S. District Courts, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York (1963) and District of Connecticut (1988); U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit (1963); U.S. Court of Military Appeals (1971) (now the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces); U.S. Supreme Court (1976).
Mr. Dempsey's bar affiliations include the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the American Corporate Counsel Association, Westchester/Southern Connecticut Chapter, and the Regional Bar of Norwalk/Stamford.
