Regulatory Law

The firm's regulatory practice encompasses compliance with banking laws, regulations and interpretations, appearing before federal and state banking regulators. We have represented banks in all phases: bank formations, bank expansion (branch applications) regulatory compliance, mergers, closure, and governmental enforcement actions.

Our banking attorneys have represented and defended banks in cease-and-desist proceedings and other enforcement actions, in civil money penalty proceedings and in preparing capital plans for banks. Our attorneys have also represented certain regulatory agencies in closed bank matters and have a working knowledge of the provisions of both FIRREA and FDICIA.

We are familiar with both national and state banking laws and regulations and have dealt with both state and federal regulatory agencies. We also have worked comprehensively with the consumer laws regarding truth-in-lending, electronic funds transfers, equal credit opportunity, fair credit reporting, the Expedited Funds Availability Act, the Connecticut Plain Language Act, the Connecticut Deposit Account Contract Act, financial privacy laws, and similar consumer laws and have extensive experience in drafting both consumer and commercial document forms for banks.

Another area in which we have extensive background is compliance with the laws regarding doing a banking business in Connecticut and interstate banking.
